I recently bumped into an acquaintance as I was walking down our street. After a few pleasantries we parted ways. Immediately he left I was left with thoughts of whether I had spoken the right words, maybe gone out of line in being friendly (if at all such a thing exists) or said too much and ended up sinning. How many times do we have such thoughts? After you’ve just pressed the send button and wished you could delete the message but it’s too late.
This led me to the question on how we ought to conduct ourselves as Christians especially in the area of our speech. The bible gives us various principles which we can use to guide us particularly in a world system that tells us to accept ourselves for who we are. ‘She’s outspoken, understand her’, or ‘be bold be brave’ but should we do this without thinking about our neighbour or our Christian testimony?
Ephesians 4v25 tells us to put away falsehood and each of us ought to speak the truth in love with his neighbour.
Ephesians 5v 4 say let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk or crude joking that are out of place but instead there ought to be thanksgiving.
We should also recognise that we can evangelize to our non-believing friends through our conduct. Colossians 4v6 serves as a reminder that our speech should always be gracious and seasoned with salt so that we may know how to answer each person.
Let us remember to always let our light shine because we are ambassadors for Christ.
Plenty love,
Kaps :)
